Finally Hong Kong has a new leader. Last weekend, C.Y. Leung was “elected” to become Hong Kong’s next Chief Executive. Calling it an “election” would be a lie though.
Indeed, only 1,193 people out of a population of almost seven million were allowed to vote. And these 1,200 people normally listen carefully to what Hong Kong’s daddy, (Beijing) will say. The majority of Honkies preferred none of the candidates up for “election”. A mockup election organized by Hong Kong University in which 200 000 participated found that more than 50% preferred to cast a blank vote.
