When the iPhone 4S hit the stores in Hong Kong a few weeks ago it was sold out within one hour. On the Apple Hong Kong Online store it even lasted only eight minutes. Most of the phones are then sold on for a premium of up to 50% on the black market in China.
Just two days ago the iPhone 4S was finally released in China. Apple has neglected the Chinese market for a while, but now they’re going full speed. Still, they don’t seem to be able (or willing) to produce enough to satisfy demand. The situation got out of control in Beijing and Apple was forced to stop selling the iPhone in its stores due to security reason. China Hush has a good article about what happened here. My friend in Beijing also posted on his blog here.
The iPhone 4S is only a minor upgrade compared to the iPhone 4. It will be interesting to see what will happen when the iPad 3 and the iPhone 5 hit the market this year.
Technology worship at it’s most insane. I had a student say she wouldn’t date a boy unless he had all the latest Apple products. Yikes.
I hope your student told her to f*** of….
